Your wedding band is the ultimate symbol of eternal love and commitment, but that doesn’t mean yours should look like anybody else’s. Signet rings are a unique and historically rich alternative for marriers who aren’t keen on traditional wedding bands.
We get orders almost every day for signets celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and graduations. But we’re seeing a rise in signets as wedding bands.
Where It All Started
Signet rings trace their lineage back thousands of years, serving originally as seals for important documents and letters. These rings were personalised with intricate designs, often bearing family crests or initials, signifying authority and authenticity which we take you through in our guided Custom Signet Ring Design journey.
Today, signet rings have evolved beyond their aristocratic origins to become symbols of personal identity and familial heritage. So it makes perfect sense to us to use them as wedding bands.
Making Signet Rings Romantic
The transition of signet rings from heritage to romance and marriage is a fascinating evolution. As symbols of identity, they inherently carry a sense of continuity and tradition, making them an appealing choice for couples seeking something with historical depth and personal significance.
In weddings, symbolism plays a crucial role. A signet ring as a wedding band can symbolise a deep connection to one's roots and family history. It merges the past with the present, carrying forward a legacy of love and commitment.
Each ring tells a story—of ancestors, values, and personal identity—making it more than just a piece of jewellery but a cherished heirloom that will be passed down from generation to generation.
Selecting a signet ring as a wedding band involves more than just choosing a design. It's about embracing a narrative: a story of lineage, love, and continuity. Couples may customise these rings with initials, monograms, or symbols that hold personal significance, adding layers of meaning beyond the initial exchange of vows.
Signet Wedding Rings We Loved Making
We’ve made a few signet wedding rings but these examples are really special to our design team.
Matching Signet Ring Wedding Bands: Georgie and Rob Wheeler’s Hand Engraved Pony Signet Rings
This couple wanted wedding rings that were both unique and deeply personal, so they chose our Ladies Oval Signet and Mens Oval Signet Rings and customised them with hand engraving. To reflect their love story, they had a pony engraved on the face of each ring, symbolising something meaningful to them.
As a special touch, they added a hidden message on the inside of the rings, laser-engraved with the words “Till Death” — a private sentiment shared just between them.
Signet Ring Wedding Band for Men: Matt’s Matte Finish Cushion Signet Ring
In this case, the bride went for a traditional wedding band while the groom, seeking something more masculine, went for a signet ring. This is a popular choice because brides usually have an engagement ring and a wedding band resulting in a visually interesting stack. Because grooms don’t typically get engagement rings, a signet with some design features can bring in more stones, symbolism, and visual interest.
The groom, with his preference for a more minimalistic style, wanted the monogram on the Mens Cushion Signet ring to be subtle, so we scaled the engraving down to a size that is understated yet still easy to read.
Embracing the minimalist aesthetic, he also chose a brushed matte finish over the more common high-polish look.
Conclusion
Choosing a wedding band is a deeply personal decision. For those drawn to tradition and symbolism, a signet ring links individual heritage with a joint future.
